Hemingway Rewritten WordPress Theme accent colour

Published Categorised as Development

I’m a big fan of the Hemingway theme, and I’ve only just noticed that there’s a new version by Anders Noren called Hemingway Rewritten, which adds lots of little features. But strangely, the Customizer option for the accent colour has been removed.

Cue a few minutes looking for that default green colour and creating a custom CSS file to a nice red.

Go to Appearance > Edit CSS and paste this into the box.

.site-footer button,
.site-footer input[type="button"],
.site-footer input[type="reset"],
.site-footer input[type="submit"],
button:hover,
input[type="button"]:hover,
input[type="reset"]:hover,
input[type="submit"]:hover,
button:focus,
input[type="button"]:focus,
input[type="reset"]:focus,
input[type="submit"]:focus,
button:active,
input[type="button"]:active,
input[type="reset"]:active,
input[type="submit"]:active,
.entry-tags a:hover,
.featured-image .flag {
	background: #c0392b;
}
a,
a:visited,
a:hover,
a:focus,
a:active,
.entry-title a:hover {
	color: #c0392b;
}
.widget_search .search-submit {
	background: #c0392b;
	border: 1px solid #c0392b;
}
.entry-tags a:hover:after {
	border-right-color: #c0392b;
}
#header-search .search-submit {
	background: #c0392b;
	border: 1px solid #c0392b;
}
/* we don't want to change the header link though, keep it white */
.site-title a,
.site-description {
	color: #fff;
}

Simple search and replace #c0392b with your open colour for your own theme.

  1. Many thanks for this tutorial 🙂 . I’ve tried to pick all tags from CSS to switch the color, but always I forgot something 🙂 🙂

  2. Thank you so much! I was looking to change the default colour to a blue, but I like your colour much better and so am going to keep it as is. Thanks again. 🙂
